Steve Cantrell is a Senior Advisor and former Chief Impact Officer at NewGlobe Schools, a social enterprise educating over 2,000,000 low-income students globally. Steve is also founder and principal at Middle, LLC, which reimagines research and evaluation services as tools to strengthen program implementation. He is a former head of evaluation and research at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation where he co-directed the Measures of Effective Teaching project. He previously served as Executive Director of the REL–Midwest, a federally funded research laboratory, and as Chief Research Scientist for the Los Angeles Unified School District. Additionally, he taught research methods at UCLA’s Luskin School of Public Affairs.Steve has provided Congressional testimony and delivered keynote addresses and presentations to policy and research audiences. He has published worldwide in academic and practitioner-oriented journals. He is the co-author of Better Feedback for Better Teaching (Jossey-Bass, 2016).Cantrell’s career began as a middle school teacher. He holds degrees from Brown University (AB, Economics) and University of Southern California (Ph.D., Public Administration).
