Small School Districts' Association of California

Tim is the current Executive Director of the California Small School Districts’ Association (SSDA), representing over 600 districts and charter schools. SSDA is lead agency for advocacy and legislative issues in California. Lead by an executive board of 14 Superintendents and a council team of 31 Charter and District Superintendents/CEO’s, SSDA is the association that amplifies the voice of the smalls.


He is the former Superintendent of Butte County Schools from 2012-2019. He also has worked for 7 years as an Assistant Superintendent at Sacramento County Office of Education and for 12 years in the Elk Grove Unified School District. A former teacher at the Sacramento Juvenile Detention Center, he was selected the 1993 Teacher of the Year.


In 2014, he was selected as one of 100 Superintendents nationally to visit with President Obama and his staff to be an ambassador of Future Pledge, the President’s initiative to ensure all students have access to technology and educational technology resources. Over his career he has served as a committee member of the California Fire Fighter Joint Apprenticeship Committee, CSBA LCAP Advisory, Commissioner for First 5 Butte County, and chairperson of the California K-12 High Speed Network Advisory Board.


Tim is a graduate of Chico State University and was selected to the Chico State Athletic Hall of Fame in 2005.
