Shaan Akbar is co-founder of Tutored by Teachers, a fast-growing, mission driven company working to close the opportunity gap by serving our nation’s high-need students with teacher-led, small group virtual instruction. TbT features a highly qualified and diverse teacher community that is doing tremendous work to support their peers in the classroom and advance equity in education. TbT is consistently driving double-digit academic gains for tens of thousands of students across the country while its teachers have been compensated over $10M to-date (and rapidly growing). Previously, Akbar grossed $200M+ scaling games businesses for the world's largest media companies. He tripled revenue for a portfolio of Star Wars games at Disney and built a mobile games division for NBCUniversal from the ground up. His early career has spanned strategy roles at Merrill Lynch and Disney. He received a joint MBA / MA from the University of Chicago and a bachelor’s degree (double major) from Rutgers University. Akbar is a loving husband to his wife, Katie, and doting dad to two elementary school aged boys.
