Grand Valley State University

President Mantella is the first woman and the fifth president to lead Grand Valley State University, the fourth largest university in Michigan. She has an impressive 30-year career in higher education marked by a unique vision to propel institutions toward meaningful innovation. Collaborations across sectors, to help realize her vision for the role education can play in a life and in a community, are a hallmark of her leadership style. Mantella is committed to institutional integrity and mobilizing the talents of GVSU to succeed in its noble mission. Mantella has worked at public and private institutions in New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts and Michigan. She earned a Ph.D. in college and university administration from Michigan State University and master’s and bachelor’s degrees from Syracuse University. Immediately prior to joining GVSU in 2019, she spent nearly two decades at Northeastern University as senior vice president of enrollment and Student Life and the chief executive officer of the Lifelong Learning Network
