As the Executive Director of the Kansas City Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (KC STEM) Alliance for the past 9 years, Martha McCabe actively seeks opportunities throughout KC and beyond to advocate for STEM education for all students. The KC STEM Alliance is the backbone organization for Kansas City’s STEM Learning Ecosystem, STEM Connect-KC and is a strategic partner to Project Lead The Way and FIRST robotics. Through Martha’s leadership in developing cross-sector partnerships, their work has garnered national recognition by Remake Learning in Pittsburgh, PA and has been recognized as a national best practice model replicated in a variety of cities across the US, most notably the Mass STEM Hub in Boston. Closing the racial and gender gaps in STEM are hallmark initiatives of the Alliance as well.Trained as a clinical exercise physiologist, Martha worked at healthcare facilities in Kansas City and in New Hampshire prior to relocating to Wisconsin focusing on healthcare advocacy and workforce initiatives with an interest in rural healthcare issues. The opportunity to return to Kansas City and engage in all aspects of STEM education and workforce development has been a delight for Martha.She received both her graduate and undergraduate degrees in exercise physiology and kinesiology from the University of Kansas and now resides in Kansas City, MO.
