Luis Duarte was born in Chihuahua, Mexico, and has always seen himself as a citizen of the world. He believes that every individual has the potential to be a leader and that it is through love, kindness, and access to options, that we can build (and leave) a better world for those coming after us.

Luis is a partner at Imaginable Futures (IF), a global philanthropic investment firm that believes learning has the power to unleash human potential and aspires to provide every learner with the opportunity and the tools they need to imagine, and to realize, a brighter future. IF is committed to anti-racism and uses a systems change approach to deploy a mix of capital tools towards positive impact. IF is a venture of The Omidyar Group.

Previously, Luis served as the Chief Philanthropy Officer of ZOMALAB - the family office of Ben and Lucy Ana Walton, and as President of their foundation. Before this appointment, Duarte served as investments director at Gary Community Investments (GCI) where he led GCI’s areas of innovation and impact investing.

Duarte is an entrepreneur who has started a number of companies and worked in both corporate and public sectors. He is currently a senior advisor at the Colorado Impact Fund and a Director of the board at BLab, GCI, and multiple startups across de Americas.

He is a Colorado Governors Fellow, as well as an Unreasonable Institute Fellow. Luis holds a BS, cum laude, in Mechanical Engineering from Tec de Monterrey and an MBA, cum laude, from Babson College.

He lives in Denver, CO with his family.  He enjoys playing guitar, hiking, kayaking, and being the king of dad-jokes (according to his kids).
