Gates joined Tyton Partners as a partner in 2011 in the strategy consulting practice. He is an experienced general manager and strategy consultant renowned for bridging innovative strategies with practical execution. He spearheaded numerous pivotal initiatives in higher education, notably leading Tyton’s Center for Higher Education Transformation. Besides advising institutions, foundations, and companies in education, Gates is a frequent author and speaker on partnerships, teaching & learning innovation, and student success in higher education.Before joining Tyton Partners, Gates was an executive at Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, contributing to strategy, product management, and finance amidst industry upheaval. Prior, he spent seven years at the Parthenon Group advising on revenue growth, profit enhancement, and M&A opportunities across information, education, publishing, and technology sectors. Gates kickstarted his career evaluating global private equity and venture capital funds on behalf of foundations and university endowments at Cambridge Associates.From 2010 to 2014, Gates served on the start-up team of Edify, a US-based nonprofit that provides microloans, curriculum, and training to Christian schools in Africa and Latin America. Gates holds a BA in Government from Dartmouth College and an MBA from the Tuck School at Dartmouth.
