Eduardo Hernandez

Dr. Eduardo Hernández joined the Edgewood ISD family as the Superintendent of Schools in June 2018, after the Board of Managers conducted a nationwide search for the district's next leader. Dr. Hernandez recognizes that Edgewood ISD employees, families and community members are all dedicated to building the legacy of academic excellence that has long been part of this district's history. During his more than 20 years of service in education, Dr. Hernández has established a reputation of being a focused, strategic educational leader who has a positive record of improving student achievement and effective communication skills that strengthen employee and community support. Upon arrival in Edgewood ISD, Dr. Hernández plans to develop and initiate an entry plan that focuses on listening and learning the dynamics that make this school district unique. The intensive listening tour will also provide Dr. Hernández an opportunity to build upon the attributes that will drive academic achievement to new heights, expand educational programming for students and support the winning traditions that make Edgewood a "District of Choice". Dr. Hernández came to Edgewood ISD from Duncanville ISD where he served as Chief Academic Officer from 2016 through 2018. As Chief Academic Officer in Duncanville ISD, Dr. Hernández implemented several academic initiatives and programs. For example, development of the all-day Pre-Kindergarten program, STEAM Academy, and Project Lead the Way engineering programs at the district secondary campuses. In addition, Early College High School designations and the Collegiate High School program at Duncanville High School. Dr. Hernández was instrumental in developing the partnership between the Dallas County Promise team and the Dallas County Community College District which affords free two-year college tuition for all Duncanville High School students. Dr. Hernández was raised in Dallas, Texas. He holds a doctorate degree in Administration and Supervision and a master's degree from Texas A&M Commerce. He earned his bachelor's degree in Political Science and Management from Texas Christian University. Additionally, he completed the Harvard University Institute for Superintendents and District Leaders. Among his proudest accomplishments is being a product of Texas Public Schools in the Dallas Independent School District. Dr. Hernández is the oldest of five children to immigrant parents who instilled the value of hard work and respect for others. His child will be a senior in high school during the next academic year and then plans to start college in the Fall of 2019. Dr. Hernández enjoys fishing, traveling, music, reading, and all kinds of sports. He is an avid supporter of his college alma mater, TCU Horned Frogs!!
