Denis Ryan

Denis Ryan is 2U Inc.’s Executive Vice President, Compliance & Regulatory Affairs. Since joining 2U in 2010, Ryan has been responsible for overseeing 2U’s compliance with all federal, state and local laws, any contractual obligations with 2U’s university partners, internal audit, and external lobbying efforts.  Over the last thirteen years, Ryan has built and managed teams of experts around the areas of accreditation, licensure, state authorization, marketing compliance, internal audit, and corporate compliance.  Prior to joining 2U, Ryan worked for three years managing the compliance department at Full Sail University, an entertainment and media school in Orlando, Florida.  Ryan was responsible for the institution’s renewal of accreditation process and all federal, state, local requirements for their campus-based and online programs.  For the nine years prior to Full Sail, Ryan was an attorney and partner with a general practice in New York City handling various corporate matters as well as commercial contracts, real estate, employment law and income and estate tax matters.Ryan graduated from Gettysburg College with a B.A. in Finance & Management and earned his J.D. from St. Thomas University School of Law.  He lives in Annapolis, MD with his wife and when their three children are home from college, they enjoy spending time with them on the Chesapeake Bay or in concert venues around the DMV.
