We Belong: Driving Successful Community Conversations about DEIB

Nickelodeon/Paramount SVP of Digital and Cultural Consumer Insights Makeda Mays Green, Sesame Workshop VP & Education Publisher Akimi Gibson, Nickelodeon/Paramount VP of Digital and Cultural Consumer Insights Colleen Russo Johnson, DMC Artist & Hip Hop Legend Darryl (DMC) McDaniels, and UC Berkeley "Greater Good Science Center" Senior Fellow Dr. Allison Briscoe-Smith discuss driving successful community conversations about DEIB at the 2023 ASU+GSV Summit.

The persistent tragic events involving violence and bias against young people of color has prompted an urgent response from child development, educational equity, and media leaders who have combined forces to create new tools for community change.  This session features action blueprints and a creative force: the release of Discussing Race with Young Children: A Step-by-Step Activity Guide; the critically acclaimed book Belonging: The Science of Creating Connections and Bridging Divides; and a unique take from the hip hop legend and social activist, Darryl (DMC) McDaniels.
