Dr. Tim Stowe is the Superintendent of the Torrance Unified School District, appointed on July 1, 2020. A proud Torrance Unified graduate, Dr. Stowe began his journey in 1992 as a substitute teacher and high school basketball coach, then rose through the administrative ranks. He served as a middle and high school principal before becoming Senior Director of Secondary Schools and later Chief Academic Officer, leading the adoption of Common Core State Standards and introducing forward-thinking curriculum enhancements. As Deputy Superintendent, Dr. Stowe oversaw more than $500 million in school bond construction and managed the District’s $250 million annual budget.Currently a Google GSV Education Innovation Fellow, Dr. Stowe is passionate about empowering students with the critical thinking, collaboration, and problem-solving skills needed to thrive in today’s rapidly evolving world. Under his leadership, Torrance Unified has pursued innovative programs that leverage technology integration, hands-on learning, and community partnerships to broaden opportunities for every student. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of Redlands, a Master of Science in School Counseling and a California Administrative Credential from the University of La Verne, and a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership from the University of Southern California. Dr. Stowe and his wife, Kathy, reside in Torrance, where all of their children have attended local schools.
