San Diego Miramar College / San Diego Community College District

Rodrigo Gomez is a Full Professor of English at San Diego Miramar College and Faculty Specialist for Emerging Technology at the San Diego Community College District’s Office of Innovation & Institutional Effectiveness. With over twelve years of teaching experience, his work centers on culturally responsive teaching, critical pedagogy, and the innovative use of emerging technologies to advance equity and student success—for example, The Syllaverse, an immersive site that introduces students to the course in creative, engaging ways while sparking conversation about the future of learning. As a passionate teacher of rhetoric, pedagogy, and poetry, Gomez was an early adopter of artificial intelligence in the classroom, launching Writing in the Age of AI in 2023 and later expanding it into an updated series that continues to guide educators in responsible and ethical AI integration. He has since become a leader in AI professional development across Southern California, facilitating workshops throughout the region, delivering keynotes in and out of state, speaking at national conferences, and contributing to global conversations on the future of AI in education. Beyond academia, Gomez extends his work into the wider educational community through DRMZ, where he advances critical Web3 literacy by integrating AI and blockchain to help learners navigate these technologies with equity and purpose. His projects range from explorations of governance on the Cardano blockchain, where he has contributed to policy-informed initiatives, to developing new pathways for educational solutions through agentic frameworks and flows.
