What is the EdTech Creator Challenge?

The EdTech Creator Challenge presented by Unity & GSV Ventures, is an open call for submissions of EdTech organizations, higher ed institutions, nonprofits, companies and creators leveraging the power of immersive technology* to make learning and education more accessible to all. This challenge will be open from August 11th-September 10th. Those that apply will be considered for funding from a $500,000 USD prize pool.

*Immersive technology indicates interactive 2D or real-time 3D technology distributed on mobile, web, VR, AR devices.

Who should apply?

This Challenge supports immersive content companies, platforms, and tools. Organizations eligible for an award will leverage immersive technology and real-time 3D to increase access to high quality learning. This includes workforce training organizations, higher education institutions, nonprofits, EdTech creators, developers and more. Unfortunately, this challenge is not open to individuals, applications must come from organizations or companies.


When is the application due?

The application is due on September 10, 2021 at 11:59PM (PST / UTC-7:00).

If I am impact focused or a non-profit, can I still apply?

Absolutely! The Unity | GSV Challenge welcomes and encourages non-profits and impact-focused organizations to apply.

What is the framework for evaluation?

Judges will focus on five categories of evaluation: People, Product, Potential, Predictability (Milestones/roadmap), and Purpose (what is the organization’s mission).

Who are the judges?

Real-time 3D experts, social impact professionals, educators as well as leaders in the EdTech community will be judging the applications.


Will I know which judges viewed my application?

Unfortunately, no. We cannot disclose who judged your application unless the judge decides, on their own, to reach out to an organization they have judged.

When will I know if I am a finalist?

You will be notified if you are a finalist by early November.


What type of funding will the selected organizations receive?

Funding may be in the form of an investment or grant from Unity’s donor advised Fund, sponsored by Tides Foundation, and will be subject to terms and conditions. Tides Foundation will review grants and investments recommended by Unity and exercise independent judgment to determine whether a proposed investment or grant distribution is aligned with the charitable/educational mission of the fund and otherwise complies with applicable law.
