Sara Schapiro is the Executive Director of the Alliance for Learning Innovation, a coalition that brings together education nonprofits, philanthropy, and the private sector to advocate for building a better research and development infrastructure in education. Prior to this role, Sara was a Senior Fellow at the Federation of American Scientists where she oversaw their education portfolio. Before FAS, Sara served as the Vice President of Education at PBS where she led their efforts to deepen partnerships across the education sector. Sara helped start Digital Promise, a nonprofit whose mission is to spur innovation and improve all Americans’ opportunity to learn. She led Digital Promise’s flagship initiative, the League of Innovative Schools, a national coalition of public school districts. Sara previously worked for the New York City Department of Education, Chicago Public Schools, and the New Jersey Department of Education. Sara serves on the Board of Directors for the Data Quality Campaign and the Association of Science and Technology Centers. Sara is a founding member of CHIEF, the professional network for women executives, and a 40 under 40 honoree from Washington Business Journal. She holds a B.A. from Duke University and a MPP from the University of Chicago.
