Dr. Rob Abel is the CEO of the not-for-profit 1EdTech Consortium and president of the board of the 1EdTech Foundation. 1EdTech is a member-based collaborative of more than 1000 universities, colleges, state departments of education, school districts,  corporate education, and leading edtech suppliers working together to foster an open, trusted, and innovative edtech and educational credentials ecosystem.
 
The 1EdTech community has been removing barriers and accelerating innovation at scale for over two decades, changing what is possible in all areas of digital teaching, learning, assessment, and achievement. 1EdTech sustains the most used open standards in edtech worldwide, including Learning Tools Interoperability (LTI), Common Cartridge, OneRoster, Caliper Analytics, Question and Test Interoperability (QTI), Open Badges, Comprehensive Learner Record (CLR), Competencies and Academic Standards Exchange (CASE), as well as standard evaluation rubrics for Student Data Privacy (including use of AI), Security, and Accessibility educational applications.  
 
Prior to leading 1EdTech Rob served as the senior VP of client services, senior VP of business development and chief marketing officer at Collegis (a successful edtech start-up, now part of Ellucian). Prior to edtech Rob held executive positions managing product development, R&D, and marketing at Oracle, National Semiconductor and TRW. Rob started his career as an engineer developing advanced sensor and signal processing systems for defense applications at Hughes Aircraft and ITT Avionics. Rob has a doctorate in educational leadership from Fielding Graduate University, an MS in engineering management from Stanford, an MS in Computer Engineering from University of Southern California, and a BS in Computational Physics from Carnegie-Mellon University.
