Obum has dedicated the vast majority of his 20+ years career to delivering educational programmes that have helped millions of students across the world develop the critical skills they need to thrive in the rapidly changing world. Obum currently leads education efforts at DeepMind aimed at building a more diverse, inclusive and responsible AI ecosystem, where people from all backgrounds can contribute to using AI to solve humanity’s most pressing challenges. Previously, he led various education efforts at Google for over 12 years, including co-founding the Google Educator Groups, which has now scaled to ~60 countries.In 2022, Her Majesty The Queen awarded Obum an OBE (Officer of the British Empire) for services to Computing & AI education, and for championing diversity & inclusion in the tech sector. In 2019, he was featured in the Financial Times' top 10 most influential BAME (Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic) leaders driving change in the UK's tech sector. Obum is a member of the Governing Council of the University of Essex and a Trustee of UK Youth (UK’s no. 1 youth charity).
