Marisa Janicek is the Superintendent of the Del Mar Union School District, where she leads with a deep commitment to student-centered innovation, instructional excellence, and collaboration. A visionary education leader, Marisa is known for challenging the status quo while building strong, trusting relationships that strengthen systems and communities.

Throughout her career, she has championed rigorous instructional frameworks, sustained professional learning, and inclusive practices that ensure every student thrives. Prior to her superintendency, Marisa served as Assistant Superintendent and Executive Director of Educational Services in El Segundo Unified School District, where she led the development and implementation of the Local Control and Accountability Plan in close partnership with staff, families, and community stakeholders.

Her leadership experience also includes serving as Director of Educational Services, Principal of Arena Alternative High School, Director of Eagles’ Nest Preschool, and Principal of Center Street Elementary. Across roles, she has focused on cultivating positive school cultures, advancing curriculum and instructional design, and aligning resources to support high-quality teaching and learning.

Marisa holds a MA in Educational Leadership from San José State University and a BA in Liberal Studies from Cal State University, Chico. She remains passionate about preparing students to think deeply, act with integrity, and thrive in a changing world.
