WizLab

Katia Shek is the co-founder and CEO of WizLab, the AI teaching assistant for language educators. A junior at Northwestern University studying Social Policy, she is passionate about making personalized language teaching scalable and accessible. Originally from Hong Kong, Katia grew up in a multilingual environment, where speaking English, Cantonese, Mandarin, and French—and now learning Arabic—deepened her appreciation for language as a bridge to global connection. She is TESOL-certified and spent a semester teaching English at a vocational school in Morocco, where she saw firsthand the joys, tribulations, and opportunities in language education. She continues her love for teaching whilst volunteering as a computer science teacher in Evanston public schools. Beyond edtech, Katia is an investment scout at Soma Capital, a $1B+ AUM early-stage venture fund backing software startups across all verticals. Whether in the classroom, the startup world, or the investment space, she is driven by a deep love for combining innovation and education to make a greater impact.
