Greenstein is managing director helping Baker Tilly develop its higher education practice that is focused on improving performance and resiliency of US universities and colleges. He brings 30 years of experience in strategic, analytical, and equity-oriented change leadership and a proven track record using innovative education and business models and advanced technology to improve student outcomes, support advances in teaching and research, and increase institutions’ financial resiliency. Before joining Baker Tilly, he transformed Pennsylvania’s State System of Higher Education, stabilizing it financially while equipping it to improve its credentialing productivity for the State. Previously, he had been tapped by The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to lead its higher education work, improving postsecondary outcomes for low-income students and students of color. He has also served in leadership roles at the University of California and for the United Kingdom’s Joint Information Systems Committee. He holds degrees from the Universities of Pennsylvania (BA, MA) and Oxford (DPhil) and began his professional life as a faculty member and modern historian at Glasgow University in Scotland.
