Christopher S. Rice, Ph.D. is the Founder and Managing Partner of Refuturing, where he leads foresight, strategy, and research. As a consulting futurist and technologist, he explores the intersections of technology, education, climate, community economic development, and politics. Over the past 25+ years, Chris has worked with leaders at colleges and universities, foundations, community development organizations, industry & professional associations, and governments to rethink unspoken assumptions, reframe problems and challenges, reimagine possible futures and develop actionable strategies to achieve them. He writes and speaks on a wide variety of topics, including Alternative Tech Futures (and Their Retro Pasts), Artificial Intelligence and its Socio-Environmental Impacts, Anticipating a World in Climate Breakdown, Systems Thinking and Strategic Foresight, and the Futures of Postsecondary Education.
 
Chris has been privileged to serve clients like the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Salesforce, Arizona State University, the Foundation for the Carolinas, the Kentucky Community and Technical College System, Texas A&M University, the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education, the Larger Community Foundations (LCF), Jerry Brown’s Oakland mayoral campaign, and many more. 
 
Prior to founding Refuturing, Chris was the Director of Digital Learning Design & Analytics with the Institute for Transformational Learning at the University of Texas System, an Enterprise Architect at the University of California San Diego, a Partner with Experience Design Works, Associate Director of the Center for the Enhancement of Learning and Teaching (CELT), and Research Director at the University of Kentucky Appalachian Center.
 
A Kentuckian born and raised, Chris currently resides in the weirdly futuristic city of Austin, TX. When given the opportunity, he will talk your ear off about bourbon and the craft of songwriting.
