Beau Dickenson

Beau Dickenson is a Nationally Board Certified Teacher (NBCT) who serves as the K-12 Social Studies Supervisor for Rockingham County Public Schools in Harrisonburg, Virginia. He is a former president and the current treasurer of the Virginia Social Studies Leaders Consortium (VSSLC). In 2020, he had the honor of serving on the Governor’s Commission on African American History Education which made significant recommendations and technical edits designed to enrich state standards related to Black history. Subsequently, he helped lead state-wide advocacy efforts to protect the Commission’s work from the Youngkin administration’s attempted rewrite of Virginia’s History and Social Science Standards of Learning. He recently co-authored the story of this advocacy campaign under the title of “Defending History” in the November/December issue of Social Education.
