Dr. Smith currently serves as the Superintendent with KIPP Texas Dallas Fort Worth in Dallas, Texas. Before this, he served as a Regional Instructional Superintendent with Denver Public Schools. His motivation in education is to reduce opportunity and learning gaps for minority students to pursue their dreams and live choice-filled lives.


As Superintendent for KIPP Texas – DFW, Dr. Smith has worked to dismantle institutional systems of oppression while supporting teachers and leaders in boldly implementing policies to support diversity, equity, and inclusion.  During his 18 year tenure with Denver Public Schools, Dr. Smith was a teacher, dean, assistant principal, and principal who successfully turned around several schools and guided led work in Denver Public Schools to drive socially conscious pedagogy and implement anti-racist practices.


Dr. Smith has over 20 years of experience as a K-20 educator and has instructed students and educators from diverse backgrounds. Dr. Smith completed his Doctoral studies at the University of Denver. He received his Master’s from the University of Phoenix and holds a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Physiology from Adams State University.
