Teron Buford is the vice president of diversity, equity, and inclusion at Avenica; a company that serves nation-wide as an education-to-work platform that seeks to bridge the gap between educational outcomes and professional aspirations. Originally from Chicago, IL, Teron has had a wide variety of different lived experiences that have help craft his worldview and shape the person he’s developed into today. Teron earned his Master of Clinical Social Work in 2018 and has worked in community center, school, and in-home settings facilitating intensive therapy. At Avenica, Teron leads efforts to grow intercultural awareness, eliminate bias, and foster a work environment that welcomes and encourages all to show up and show out as their most authentic selves. Prior to joining Avenica, he spent 11 years working in undergraduate recruitment; leading the institution’s multicultural student recruitment initiatives. Teron has dedicated the entirety of his professional life (and much of his personal life) to ensuring that often-marginalized and underrepresented populations have a voice at the table when decisions are made while also creating a safe space for people to learn, grow, and share their lived experiences in the pursuit of self-betterment and allyship.
