Dr. Ryan Stewart most recently served as the first African American Secretary of Education for the State of New Mexico appointed by New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham.Prior to his appointment Dr. Stewart began his career in education as a middle school math teacher in California. He went on to become an instructional coach with the New Teacher Center followed by a role as Executive Director for School Improvement and Innovation at the School District of Philadelphia and then as Regional Executive Director for Partners in School Innovation.Dr. Stewart earned his doctorate in education leadership from the Harvard Graduate School of Education and his B.A. in economics from Stanford University. He is currently serving as a leadership and strategy consultant to a variety of educational organizations and companies.
