MJ Bishop is a nationally recognized scholar and leader in the design and evaluation of effective learning environments. In 2022 she was named vice president of the new Integrative Learning Design unit at the University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC). In that role she helps UMGC’s shift to a more collaborative and holistic approach to defining, designing, and solutioning for a range of learning and learner experiences. Prior to that, Dr. Bishop worked in the University System of Maryland Office of Academic and Student Affairs as the inaugural director of the William E. Kirwan Center for Academic Innovation, subsequently serving as assistant and later associate vice chancellor and introducing new ways of thinking about student success, equity, and inclusion. She graduated from Lebanon Valley College with a bachelor’s degree in political science and English and holds a master’s degree in English from Millersville University and a doctorate in instructional design and development from Lehigh University.
