Margot Brown is the Vice President of Justice and Equity at the Environmental Defense Fund. Currently she is implementing a strategy to integrate environmental justice (EJ) into organizational processes policies and work around the globe. Margot has more than 20 years of experience working with communities of color low-income Indigenous and marginalized communities. At the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) she led teams from the Office of Community Revitalization in providing technical assistance for sustainable development to communities in the Mississippi Delta and Appalachia. Margot also led EPA’s Clean Green and Healthy Schools initiatives where she built alliances with national organizations like the Boys and Girls Club of America. Leveraging minimal resources her division created a national afterschool curriculum for vulnerable children. The program provided disadvantaged youth the tools to reduce their environmental risks empowering them with basic knowledge to improve the environmental conditions for their community. With the recently launched Environmental Justice Community Capacity Center Margot is working with a diverse group of EJ leaders to accelerate environmental progress that benefits the health and wellbeing of the people most disproportionately impacted by environmental injustices. Margot holds a Master of Science in Public Health and a Doctor of Science from Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine.
