Lawrence Grey

Executive Director

Young Producers Group

Lawrence Grey is a lifelong music producer, a dedicated educator, and a tireless proponent of music education in schools. Growing up obsessed with electronic music, Lawrence always felt out of step with performance-based band, orchestra, and choir programs. After working with formerly incarcerated youth at a restorative justice center, he saw the potential for composition-based music production and technology programs to make space for all young people in the music classroom.Lawrence went on to found Young Producers Group (YPG) in 2016, looking to modernize music education and bring creativity and equity into the music classroom. Today, he serves as YPG’s executive director and head of curriculum development, designing innovative, engaging curricula that reflect the interests and lived experiences of students. With a Bachelor's Degree in Music Composition from New York University (NYU), a Masters Degree in Education from University of California Los Angeles (UCLA), and as an Ableton Certified Trainer, Lawrence’s unique position singularly qualifies him to create curricula and lead a team of forward-thinking educators.
