Kate Lee Carey has been practicing law in the education space for more than 20 years. Her practice focuses on the legal, accreditation, administrative and regulatory aspects of higher education institutions and companies that provide services to the education industry. She provides clients with interpretation and implementation guidance on legal and regulatory changes, including impact analysis and strategic plans to implement complex regulatory requirements and compliance structures. Kate has extensive experience in the development and implementation of legislative and policy priorities at the federal and state levels and in accreditation and licensing matters. Prior to joining Cooley, Kate served varying roles in higher education institutions, including as general counsel and vice president for government affairs, vice president of compliance, and regulatory affairs director. Kate currently serves on the Development Board for the California Innocence Project, and previously served on the Board of the Lawyers Club of San Diego and as Chair of the Advisory Committee to the California Bureau of Private Postsecondary Education.
