Success Stories
Hugo is a Transformational Coach with Success Stories Program an organization that he helped develop while incarcerated. His multiple life sentences were commuted by Gov. Jerry Brown after serving 18 1/2 years in the California Correctional Facilities. Hugo coordinates workshops in carceral spaces with men who have been engaged in harmful activity and are predominantly involved in gang activity in its full-fledged form with a primary focus of encouraging prosocial behaviors. These prosocial behaviors often involve transitioning out of the gang lifestyle and meeting their needs within a community of men who are challenging the same toxic belief systems. Due to its undeniable results Success Stories Program is now contracted by the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation to deliver programming in 11 state prisons. It’s through his experiences that Hugo's able to effectively assist others in living a life that is beneficial for themselves and their communities.
