Ed Hidalgo is the chief innovation and engagement officer for the Cajon Valley Union School District. His focus is advancing the district vision of developing happy kids, living in healthy relationships, on a path to gainful employment.
Joining Cajon in 2017, Hidalgo began to develop and deploy a research-based and teacher-led career development framework for all students starting in the early grades and known as the World of Work™ (WoW). The model has advanced to tens of thousands of students in Cajon Valley and partner districts in the U.S. and has been recognized as a best practice for integration by teachers. The work has been highlighted in Forbes, EdSurge and in 2020 received the Classroom of the Future Foundation Impact Award. In 2021 the framework is now integrated within the Beable Education literacy acceleration platform for deployment in classrooms globally.
A secondary focus for Hidalgo is the advancement and measurement of an employee engagement initiative in partnership with Gallup. Over three years the district moved from an employee engagement index consistent with the general U.S. workforce, to a best practice differentiated workplace culture. The shift increased the participation and engagement levels of 100's of staff and significantly reduced the number of actively disengaged workers.
Prior to his work in Cajon Valley, he spent more than 20 years serving in leadership roles at organizations including The Jacob’s Institute for Innovation in Education at the University of San Diego, in Human Resources and Government Affairs for Qualcomm, and Staffing Management for Manpower of San Diego.
His extensive employer collaborations and partnerships include board service. He is a member of the San Diego Workforce Partnership workforce board and previously served as chair.
