Cordero Holmes
Student Ambassador
Rio Salado College
Cordero spent a little over 10 years of his life in prison and other jail institutions. It was in prison in solitary confinement that he became enamored with reading and once released back into the general population started teaching a philosophy class. Since reentry Cordero has kept that passion for education—he is currently pursuing multiple associate’s degrees at Rio Salado College and was recently granted a full-ride scholarship to a major university in Arizona. He believes that a lack of education in his younger years laid the foundation for his eventual incarceration and wants to do his best to help provide learning opportunities for people in similar situations.
